History
McKinney was named for Collin McKinney. On March 24, 1849, William Davis, who owned 3,000 acres where McKinney now stands, donated 120 acres for the townsite. Ten years later McKinney was incorporated, and in 1913 the town adopted the commission form of government. For the first 125 years of its existence, McKinney was the main commercial center for farmers in the county. Farmers were provided with flour, corn, cotton mills, cotton gins, a cotton compress and a cottonseed oil mill. In 1970 McKinney surpassed Plano in size and population and has been growing ever since.
Transportation
US75 and US380 run through McKinney. Collin County Regional Airport is also located there. The DART light rail does not currently access McKinney, but plans are in the works to utilize existing railways to reach the city. The southern portion of McKinney (south of ElDorado Parkway) in Craig Ranch, has public trolley transit operated by Craig Ranch. There are major highways near all apartments in McKinney.
Education
McKinney is the home of the Central Park Campus of Collin College [4] which opened in January 1986 and has recently added a new library building in 2009.
