Lewisville is a far northwest suburb of Dallas that over 105,217 warm & friendly people call home. Lewisville is one of the oldest incorporated cities in the northern area of the Dallas-Ft. Worth Metroplex, and it remained a small rural town with just a few thousand people until the 1970′s. Just minutes away from Dallas, Lewisville strikes the perfect balance, a charming community with that small-town feel and all the excitement of the city in Big D.
It’s outstanding city services, twenty-five beautifully maintained parks, excellent school system and glittering blue lakes make Lewisville one of the most wonderful places to live in the Metroplex.

The Lewisville ISD is a large district, at 127 square miles.
The recent suburban growth of the Dallas-Ft. Worth Metroplex has caused the LISD to grow at a tremendous pace, becoming the 94th largest school district in the U.S. in 2006. In 2008, LISD was the 17th largest school district in the state of Texas. To help maintain this growth, voters approved a $697 million bond package in 2008.
The Lewisville ISD prides itself on a long standing tradition of educational excellence. With more than 38 schools receiving the “Exemplary” rating and 20 schools earning the “Recognized” rating by the Texas Education Agency, families move into LISD because of its commitment to student success. The LISD also has six Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence, which is the highest designation a school can earn by the United States Department of Education. The district has received numerous academic accolades and financial awards, which is a reflection of the high quality teachers and staff. The LISD is one of the premiere school systems in the state of Texas. There are Lewisville apartments nears all of the public schools.
Lewisville’s economic strength is mainly due to a well diversified economy. Lewisville has over 6.7 million square feet of retail and restaurant space, with more shopping and dining space per capita than any other city its size or larger in the region. The earliest settlement in the area of what is now Lewisville occurred in the 1840′s. Basdeal Lewis purchased the land around which Lewisville would be formed and named the town after his family. Growth was very slow during the 1800′s, with the population rising to only around 500 people by 1900. The settlement had several agriculture related industries, including a gristmill, a cotton gin, a livery stable and a feed mill. In 1885, the building currently housing the Greater Lewisville Community Theater was constructed on Main Street. It remains Lewisville’s oldest standing structure.
Lewisville High School opened in 1897 and in 1925 residents voted to incorporate the settlement making it the City of Lewisville. Lewisville slowly grew with its first automobile dealership and traffic light appearing over the next two decades. That single signal light, at the intersection of Main and Mill Streets, remained the only traffic signal in the city until the 1970′s.
The Lewisville Dam was completed in 1954, which expanded the Garza-Little Elm Reservoir into the current 30,000 acre Lewisville Lake. The population growth began to accelerate, and by the 1970 census there were 9,264 residents. The growth was mainly west of downtown Lewisville and kept moving west as housing replaced farms.
