History

After a peace treaty signing between General Sam Houston and leaders of 10 Inidian nation in 1843, the area became open to settlement by homesteaders and pioneers. The settlement was named Grapevine because of its location on the Grape Vine Prairie near Grape Vine Springs.

The city was officially incorporated by 1936 and after the opening of the nearby Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport in 1974, the city saw tremendous growth and development. Grapevine is home to many wineries and tasting rooms as well as the advocacy group ‘the Texas Wine and Grape Growers Association’.
