History

Frisco was incorporated in 1908, but it’s roots can be traced back to the early 1800′s. The city was born as a tiny watering hole and whistle stop for steam engines pulling through on the St. Louis-San Francisco railroad line. It was from this railroad that Frisco got it’s name.

The first settlers to the Frisco area traveled along the Shawnee Trail, which would become Preston Trail and eventually Preston Road, following the buffalo herds and natural springs. Cattle drives took place along the trail and soon the settlement of Lebanon was founded on Preston Ridge. The thriving cattle town was granted a post office in 1860, but proved too high in elevation for a railroad watering station. So the station was placed at a lower elevation 4 miles to the west, a community now called Frisco grew around this train stop. Residents of Lebanon, wanting to be close to the railroad and on the mail line, even rolls their houses on logs to the new train stop.

In 1904, the residents chose the name “Frisco City,” in honor of the St. Louis-San Francisco Railway on which the town was founded, they later shortened the name to “Frisco.” Today Frisco is experiencing a thriving business community and continues to develop and prosper.
