History
One the home of Wichita, Caddo, Comanche and Lipan Apache tribes, Benbrook was settled by Edward and Nancy Willburn in 1843 as part of the Peter’s Colony and settle near Mary’s Creek in 1854. The first school in the area was erected in 1857. Both the Cleburne cut-off, a side trail of the Chisholm Trail that avoided downtown Ft. Worth and The Butterfield Stage Line went through the Benbrook area. The Fort Worth-El Paso Mail Route was robbed several times in the area. In 1876, James M. Benbrook, petitioned the railroad to put a station along Mary’s Creek. The station was named Benbrook Station. Two trains a day stopped at the station by 1990 and like the stage, it was a target for robberies. Benbrook was not incorporated as a town until 1949.
